Food as Medicine, and specifically Produce prescription (PRx) programs, are clinical-community partnerships in which health care providers (HCP) “prescribe” fruits and vegetables to patients experiencing food insecurity and diabetes, are one way to address poor health outcomes associated with food insecurity and diabetes. They can also serve as another selling outlet for farmers. This panel discussion will include a brief overview of Food as Medicine/Produce Prescription programs, as well as a panel of speakers that will provide perspectives from each of the key players in a Produce Prescription Program – farmers, healthcare providers, community organizations, and patients – on what a successful farmer and healthcare partnership can look like.
