After college Matt developed a love for food, and where our food comes from by working in
high-end restaurants in and around Birmingham. While working in the restaurant scene he
started to develop relationships with many organic farms in the area and began working with
them more closely. From there he decided it was time to go all in on farming.
Matthew decided to leave Birmingham and go to work on organic farms in Georgia, Alabama,
and England where he helped each farm manage their businesses of cultivating food for local
communities both in vegetable production and livestock management.
In 2019 Matt created Field Culture Compost, a service-based company that diverts food waste
from landfills and creates resources for local farms and home gardeners. While that business
took off he started to find more time back on his plate. In 2024 he accepted a position as the Farm
Director at Jones Valley Teaching Farm.
