Description

Get ready to dig into learning garden resources at the Wylde Center Edgewood! Discover new tips and tricks for making your school or community garden thrive, and meet fellow garden and nutrition enthusiasts who share your green thumb passion. Presented by the Education Staff from Atlanta’s  Wylde Center and Jones Valley Teaching Farm in Birmingham. Join us for guidance on how to grow together and make our gardens bloom with fun!

 

EDUCATIONAL HIGHLIGHTS OF THE WYLDE CENTER TOUR

  • Tour the Wylde Center’s Edgewood Garden, which was intentionally designed for garden and nutrition education in the local community.

  • Participate in a hands-on gardening activity 

  • Learn from a panel of garden educators how to establish and maintain a school, community or non-profit learning garden space. Discussion topics include: 

    • The basics and planning of learning gardens 

    • Helpful lesson plans and resources 

    • Strategies for incorporating cultural inclusivity

    • Tasting and nutritional experiences 

    • The importance and methods of data collection

    • Funding Options 

 

TRANSPORTATION

Arrive at the transportation hub at the Georgia World Congress Center Marshalling Yard (362 Ivan Allen Jr Blvd NW, Atlanta, GA 30313) from 8:00-8:30 a.m. for registration and bus assignment. Buses will depart promptly at 9:00 a.m. (refunds will not be issued for late attendees who arrive after buses have departed). Attendees MUST arrive between 8:00-8:30 a.m. at the farm tours transportation hub at the Georgia World Congress Center Marshalling Yard

Note: All attendees MUST meet at the Georgia World Congress Center transportation hub and use the bus transportation provided to the farm. This reduces the logistical stress placed on the farm host, avoids the hassle of parking at the farm, and ensures that all attendees arrive at the farm at the same time. Do NOT drive yourself to the farm site. 

 

AGENDA

8:00- 8:30 a.m.: Arrive at the Georgia World Congress Center transportation hub for registration and bus assignment

9:00 a.m.: Bus to the Wylde Center (20 minutes) 

9:20 a.m.: Bus arrives at the Wylde Center

9:20 - 9:35 a.m.: Welcome and Introductions 

9:35 - 10:25 p.m.: 

  • Group 1: Wylde Center Tour 

  • Group 2: Panel Discussion - How to Foster Community in a Learning Garden Space

10:25 - 11:15 p.m.: 

  • Group 1: Panel Discussion - How to Foster Community in a Learning Garden Space

  • Group 2: Wylde Center Tour

11:15 - 11:45 a.m.: Taste Test Activity + Networking

11:45 am.: Bus back to transportation hub (20 minutes)

12:05 p.m.: Arrive at the GWCC transportation hub

 

Attendees can plan to arrive back at the transportation hub around 12:05 p.m.; however, this is dependent on traffic conditions. Please plan your day accordingly. 

 

ABOUT WYLDE CENTER 

Wylde Center was founded in 1997 out of a need to provide opportunities to experience nature in an urban environment. Wylde Center now maintains five green spaces throughout Decatur and Atlanta, which are open year-round for the community, for events, and for educational programs. Wylde Center also provides one of the largest youth environmental and science education programs in metro-Atlanta, incorporating field trips, school garden support, after-school programs, and school break camps.

    • This ticket rate reflects the true cost of the farm tour, transportation, and labor, and provides additional support to Georgia Organics to host this conference.

    • This ticket might apply to you if: 

      • Your employer is paying for your ticket or you are being paid to participate

      • You earn more than enough to meet your basic needs and contribute to savings

      • You have access to financial support whenever you need

      • You have higher earning power due to education, gender, or racial privilege

      • You would like to pay-it-forward to enable Georgia Organics to continue offering accessible sliding scale pricing

  • Sustainability Ticket (true pricing):  

    • This ticket rate reflects the true cost of the farm tour, transportation, and labor.

    • This ticket might apply to you if: 

      • You are comfortably able to meet your basic needs on a regular basis

      • You have access to financial savings

      • You are a member of a historically marginalized group and/or your ancestors have been historically excluded from agricultural learning spaces

  • Solidarity Ticket (equity pricing):  

    • This ticket rate reflects our intention to make the farm tours accessible to all.

    • This ticket might apply to you if: 

      • You are a student, apprentice, or beginning farmer with debt

      • You often worry about paying for basic needs and can’t always meet them

      • You have limited expendable income

      • You are a member of a historically marginalized group and/or your ancestors have been historically excluded from agricultural learning spaces

 

Tickets are nonrefundable. No-shows and late arrivals to the transportation hub will forfeit their farm tour ticket.
