Dana York retired from the USDA, Natural Resource Conservation Service in January 2011 after a 34-year career with the Agency. She served in many positions from a Soil Conservationist in the field to the highest career position as the Associate Chief of the Agency in Washington DC, where she directed a 3-Billion dollar budget and 11,000 employees.

When she retired, she started a consulting company called Green Earth Connection, and worked for 3 years with the agriculture states in the Chesapeake Bay region, helping State Departments of Agriculture and farmers meet the EPA Clean Water Act rules. When she moved back to East TN in 2013, she served as the President of Jonesborough Locally Grown and led the opening Boone Street Market in Jonesborough- a 6 day a week farmers market. Through her consulting company, she helped start the Appalachian Resource Conservation and Development Field School for beginning farmers 5 years ago in the East TN area; she also served as the Treasurer for both the Sustainable Agriculture Working Group, a 13 state sustainable agriculture organization; and for the East Tennessee League of Women Voters--as well as full time farming!

Grand Oak Farm is her 246-year-old family farm. The farm has been in many different agriculture industries, but in her lifetime, it has been a dairy, beef and hay farm and in 2017 she started a full time 3-acre organic vegetable and cut flower operation on the farm and now mentors’ young farmers in the region and on her farm.

York is a native of Tennessee and she lives on her family farm outside of Jonesborough. She received a Bachelor of Science degree in Agricultural Science from Tennessee Technological University and a Master’s degree in Industrial/Organizational Psychology from Middle Tennessee State University.
