Judith McGeary, Farm and Ranch Freedom Alliance
Shawn "Pepper" Roussel, Loyola University, School of Law
This panel will explore the various ways we speak to different audiences to organize and communicate effectively, emphasizing themes such as racial diversity, political diversity, and geographic differences (organizing in the South versus the North). The discussion will also cover how to bridge the gap between legal/professional communication and the general public. By focusing on language and diversity in activism, the panel aims to enhance the effectiveness of individuals and organizations advocating for small farms in the South. Judith McGeary, Executive Director and Founder of FARFA, will moderate the discussion, joined by Tiffany Bellfield El-Amin, Founder and Executive Director of the Kentucky Black Farmers Association, and Shawn 'Pepper' Roussel, adjunct Professor from Loyola University's School of Law. The session will provide insights into effective communication strategies and foster a deeper understanding of how to bridge a range of divisions in order to better advocate for Southern farmers.
