Date & Time
Wednesday, February 5, 2025, 9:15 AM - 10:30 AM
Description

In this farmer/researcher led talk, we will discuss the benefits of cover crops to southern farmers and dive in to the in and outs of cover cropping in a mixed vegetable system in the South. The benefits of cover crops can be great and varied, from increasing fertility and soil organic matter to decreasing weeds and other pests, but incorporating them into a working farm can be difficult. We will discuss cover crop planting time and species selection, tools for planting cover crops efficiently, equipment calibration, methods of cover crop termination and incorporation, and quantifying the benefits of cover crops in a farming system. This team will bring about farmer experience as well at the some of the latest research in no-till cover crop planting in the South to give a crash course into successful cover cropping.
