Born in a small rural town in Southeast Georgia called Woodbine, Cashawn Myers has taken his life experiences to make a positive impact on the world. He comes from a lineage of farmers and teachers, and, and as a youth he was hesitant to follow either of those family traditions. It wasn’t until he was a sophomore in college that he wholeheartedly embraced his purpose in life. Mr. Myers is a father, husband, international organizer, farmer, and teacher who received his Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Florida A&M University, and a Masters of Education, with special interest in curriculum development, from Howard University


As a founding member of HABESHA, (Helping Africa By Establishing Schools at Home and Abroad), Inc., headquartered in Atlanta, GA, Mr. Myers has served as Executive Director since its inception in 2002. HABESHA is a Pan-African organization that cultivates leadership in youth and families through practical experiences in cultural education, sustainable agriculture, entrepreneurship, holistic health, and technology. In 2003, Mr. Myers led the development of the the HABESHA Gardens Complex (HGC), a one-acre facility that serves the metro Atlanta area through providing education and training in urban organic agriculture, sustainable energy technology, and green living. HGC also host several events including festivals, concerts, movie nights, and other cultural programs throughout the year. Mr. Myers has been instrumental in establishing training programs in Atlanta for K-12 youth (Sustainable Seeds-2004), and young adults (HABESHA Works-2011), and seniors (Golden Growers-2013), around sustainable urban agriculture and healthy living.


To fulfill his passion of connecting youth of African ancestry with their cultural heritage, Mr. Myers created Black To Our Roots (BTOR), a youth leadership and rites of passage program that promotes African cultural values through critical research, community service, and fundraising. This program was specifically designed to reduce the negative impacts of poor education and community apathy that exists in so many urban environments. BTOR culminates in travel-study to Ethiopia and Ghana, providing youth with the tools to become active participants in the unity and development of their local and global African communities. Mr. Myers has led over 200 youth and adults from Atlanta, New York, Detroit, Washington DC, and St. Thomas, VI on the “Journey of Self-Discovery” since 2004. In 2007 an award-winning documentary film, entitled “Black To Our Roots” was made that told the story of Myers and the youth of the program.

HABESHA’s success has led to the establishment of HABESHA Foundation, an NGO in Ghana, in 2005 and have supported the establishment of 3 schools, 1 orphanage and 1 clinic in the Eastern and Volta Regions. Recently, HABESHA opened the Kweku Andoh Sustainability Institute (KASI), in Liati Wote, Volta Region in 2022. KASI is named in honor of world-renowned Ghanaian ethno-botanist Dr. A. Kweku Andoh. KASI is a marriage between an eco-resort and a research/training institute which highlights instruction in sustainable and renewable eco-holistic practices from an indigenous African perspective. Additionally, KASI will serve as the International Headquarters for HABESHA to host individuals & groups for African cultural exchange.


Mr. Myers has lived in Ghana with his wife and 4 children since 2016, and currently resides in the Eastern Region. As a recognized master teacher of 20 years, Mr. Myers has been an invited keynote presenter at regional and national conferences, school systems, colleges and universities. With a culturally relevant approach to youth development, he is known for his dynamic, interactive presentations to teachers, administrators, parents, and students. HABESHA’s success has led to the establishment of affiliate branches in Washington, DC, Accra, Ghana, and Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Several universities, community organizations, and institutions of faith have honored Mr. Myers for his work in the upliftment of peoples of African ancestry, particularly youth. The work of the organization has also been featured on television, radio, and print media throughout the US, Caribbean, and Africa. Mr. Myers travels extensively throughout Africa, Europe, and the Caribbean sharing his experience of sustainable agriculture and healthy living.
