Name
Growing Bulb Onions from Seed
Date & Time
Wednesday, February 5, 2025, 3:45 PM - 5:00 PM
Description

This presentation covers everything you need to grow great bulb onions from seed in the deep South. Onions are a staple in the kitchen but can be tricky with many factors of critical importance to success. Variety selection, latitude consideration, timing, propagation, field management, harvest, and post-harvest curing will be covered. Both traditional transplant production (for manual or mechanical transplant) as well as an adapted PaperPot chain transplant system for bulb onions will be explained. Bulb onions can be a high yielding and reliable crop, and growing onions from seed saves money, gives maximum varietal and timing control, and builds more resilience for organic producers who are otherwise limited by certified plant availability.
